"A Walton Trilogy" Selections from "Richard III" and "Henry V". Corps Placed 7th at all shows at nationals. Corps was VERY young after their 25th anniversary year. First show of the year corps scored a 55 and ended at finals with a 90.4 a +35.1 difference, which in it self is a GREAT accomplishment for such a demanding show and young corps. Check out Lee Rudnicki blog for more insight on the drum line. This was Scott Johnson's last year with SCV. http://drumlaw80.blogspot.com/2006/06/tale-of-drum-line-1993-santa-clara.htmlHorn Line - Out of 60+ horns, 45 -- 50 were rookies. Very raw horn line with a very difficult book. Hornbook was arranged by Jay Kennedy that year. 1993 was much harder then there 91, 92 shows by far. Good mellophone line as you can hear them all over the music. Corps was filled with kids 15-17 years of age and no drum corps experience at all. ** This was also the first year of the "Dark years". Dr. Len Kruszecki was the corps director after the retirement and passing away of Gail Royer. The vets (which were very few) had always wanted to pay tribute to their falling leader. Dr. Len was very adamant on putting his stamp and leadership within the corps by taking a firm stance on the corps not playing "Send In The Clowns" which is, and forever will be, the corps song. The horn line eventually played Clowns towards the end of the year. I Believe horn staff was starting to rebel as well. Horn line and drum line players wanted to pay tribute to G.R. with some sort of symbolic gesture, for example a black arm band or something of that nature but Dr. Len refused and was once again a thorn to the corps side. He only permitted the corps to blacken out the V on the Vanguard Star, which was not even visible to anyone but the corps members themselves. He only lasted 3 years as director and then the real SCV reemerged. **Enjoy!
