In 1993 the Freight purchased its current facility. Seven years later, with the help of the City of Berkeley, the organization purchased a new property, in the heart of Berkeley's downtown Arts and Cultural District, and is currently working on transforming this property into the site of its new home. In its new home the Freight will continue its work in the preservation of traditional music, as well as expand its educational programs.
