It took (seriously) months to complete. It was originally made to be a contest entry, but I should probably be disqualified for my tardiness. Story:Short- Follow the music [Shuyin=Tidus]Long- At a time when humanity is at war with the extraterrestrial force, the pyreflies (which can manifest as mighty beasts or can take possession of humans), Tidus is captain of a spaceship for a league which sets out to eradicate the enemy. While on break from his job, he meets Yuna then after much pleading on her behalf, allows her on his ship. He shows her a room of illusions which projects an image of the sky when suddenly their ship is attacked. After fleeing from the invasion, Tidus, unarmed, calls for help from the control room, but the system does not seem to be working properly. The technician, Rikku, is attacked from behind and dies. A horde of pyreflies moves to attack Yuna but suddenly retract, Tidus runs to her aid but a pyrefly suddenly departs her chest and he realizes that she is a traitor--and that the pyreflies tracked her body to find the ship. He blacks out then wakes and finds his crew slain and Yuna shaking. The phone rings signaling the arrival of reinforcements. Yuna, seeing Tidus conscious, embraces him. Seeing Yunas gentle face, Tidus is torn between turning her in as a monster or protecting her as the woman he loves. The choice is made for him: the soldiers arrive. Tidus moves away and the soldiers attack, rape then finally kill her, while all the while Yuna watches Tidus in horror, waiting for him to save her. The image haunts him long after the fact and he asks for leave from his position, but the time off provides no solace. He returns to the job, mentally unstable, seeing hallucinations of his dead crew. Nevertheless, he is sent on a mission to kill a summoner (Lenne)--a traitor to humanity that is responsible for the birth of new pyreflies and can make them form leviathans--but when he sees her Creation Dance, he only sees Yunas face. Paine, another soldier, shoots Lenne. In vengeful desperation, Lenne attempts to summon forth a great beast to destroy her enemies. Tiduss head suddenly fills with dizzying, paralyzing memories of Yuna and then that day, yet in times when he had only remembered darkness and dreams, the gaps are filled with horrific scenes. He looks at himself and sees bright blue pyreflies gathering about his skin, an ancient energy pulsing through his blood. He then realizes what he is--what he has been--a collection of pyreflies that formed one of the mighty consciouses and leaders of the pyreflies--responsible for the massacre on his own ship. Lenne falls, but Tidus runs to comfort her. He sees Yuna's face in Lennes again and then an overwhelming anger takes over him while she dies, thinking of the injustice done to Yuna and his duty to his kind. He stands slowly, turning to his bewildered crew, and embraces his new identity. With a burst of pure energy, the men around him turn to ash and a mighty explosion pounds the earth, killing all those in the vicinity.
