ANCHOR:British super rockers Coldplay will unveil their much anticipated new album'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends' on I-tunes today and internationally tomorrow. Here's more.STORY:The album that will put the new EMI under its greatest global scrutiny to date is also 2008's most eagerly awaited release. That's the official word from Coldplay's new boss.The band's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" will be released June 12 internationally on Parlophone/EMI and on June 17 in North America on Capitol.EMI Group chairman Guy Hands, led the buyout of the music company last summer through his private-equity firm, Terra Firma.[Guy Hands, EMI Group Chairman]:"Right across the world, this is the most anticipated album of the year."To reassert its close relationship with its fans, Coldplay made the album's first single, "Violet Hill", a track, with something of the flavor of the early Beatles era. It's available as a free download. According to EMI it shifted more than two million units in its week of being available for free.A cover-mounted 7-inch vinyl edition of the single was given away with the May 10 issue of British music weekly NME. It's the only physical version of the single available, although it also went on sale at digital outlets the same day.Coldplay will stage free gigs at London's Brixton Academy on June 16th and at New York's Madison Square Garden on June 23. They might also give a free show in Barcelona soon.The free shows will be followed by extensive touring throughout 2008and beyond. Roughly 50 shows are planned for North America, Europeand the United Kingdom. Coldplay will also headline Japan's 'Summersonic' festival inAugust.
