Nu Tempo was formed in 1998 by Everaldo Pereira dos Santos as an experimental dance company. The name is a play on words in Portuguese: Nú Tempo, meaning naked time; and No Tempo, meaning on time. Fusing traditional Brazilian dance forms with contemporary European movements, Nu Tempo is committed to forging a new and exciting performance language. Borrowing from established cultural dances and martial arts, the company seek to explore character and narrative in the context of Brazilian myths, rhythms and music. Reaching out to a range of people, it aims to touch its audiences with accessible and powerful work.The company have performed in the UK, Europe and Brazil and in July 1998 were awarded 'Best Choreographic Work of the Year' by O Capital, Aracaju. In summer 2006 the company delivered a programme of international workshops in Brazil, involving 150 local participants. The dancers worked towards performance piece '2+2' which Everaldo hopes to resurrect for a similar project next year. 'Blood Song' and 'The Second of February' are two brand new works.
