Blair School of Music (Vanderbilt University) Turner Hall; Viola Class Recital (College and Pre-college)Chris Lowry, violaDr. Polly Brecht, pianoThis is the first movement (andante comodo) of the Concerto for Viola and Orchestra by Sir William Walton. I am playing on a TINY 15 & 3/4" viola made by Stanley Kiernoziak (William Harris Lee and Co., in Chicago). It costs $13500, and for the sound it gets, that's well worth the price (really good fro such a small instrument).

This is the world premiere of my original composition Celebration Overture. Playing is the Curb Youth Symphony (formerly known as the Nashville Youth Symphony) in their winter concert, December 11, 2006, in Ingram Hall at Blair School of Music (Vanderbilt University). Conducting is Dr. Carol Nies. I am third chair first violin. This is my senior year, and my seventh year in CYS. It took me three years to write enough of the first movement of my symphony to form a piece, so Dr. Nies listened to an mp3 of what I wrote and decided that we should play it. So, yeah. Pretty much, since then, this excerpt of my Symphony, a.k.a. Celebration Overture, has been a pretty big hit. It has also been performed by MTSU's orchestra and by the Nashville Symphony. AND, CYS will perform it again in June for the American Symphony Orchestra League and Leonard Slatkin and the head of the Philadelphia Orchestra!!!So, I hope you enjoy listening to/seeing my public debut!!
