Yesterday was day four into mine and Matti Byes project of recording an albums worth of Cirkus music. Me and Matti have played together in a lot of different settings but oddly enough we have never recorded anything...until now.Matti is one of my favourite musicians to play and record with. He is fast, intuitive and has a remarkable way of extracting the soul of an instrument and putting it into musical context.IN this film you can see Matti overdubbing using the Mellotron flute 2. This is not the classic flute sound as used by the Beatles but a newer sound recorded in 1974These little films were shot at Roth Händle studios in Stockholm, a studio based around an idea of using old and interesting instruments in new and exciting ways. The studio is the home of many odd artefacts such as the Orchestron, Optigan and the mysterious Chamberlin rhythmate. The Roth Händle studio is the home of one of the worlds largest collection of vintage keyboards, drum machines and effects. A Safe haven for Mellotrons, Rhythmates and Orchestrons to mention but a few of the weird and rare instruments that inhibit the studio.The Roth Händle studio is owned and run by musician/producer Mattias Olsson. Mattias started out as a drummer playing in bands such as Änglagård, Pineforest Crunch and Reminder. In 1998 he started collecting odd and different sounds from around the globe and in 2001 the first real Roth Händle studio was set up at an old abandoned shipyard outside of Stockholm.
