Leroy Sibbles is truly one of reggae's great ambassadors. Not only is he the lead singer of The Heptones, but he is one of the music's great bassists having composed many seminal rhythms. In his book "Bass Culture" writer Lloyd Bradley describes Sibbles as one of the most important figures in the development of reggae music. Why? Mainly because in his role as Clement "Coxsone" Dodd's right hand man at Studio One, he played a part, either as arranger, bassist, producer or songwriter on virtually every Studio One release and was a key bridge between rocksteady and reggae. He is one of reggae's royalty.This track is taken from the 1980 album called "Strictly Roots", and is a beautiful but heartfelt and sad tune about the poverty, pain and misery of life in the ghetto.
