Konstantinos Maleas was born in Constantinople in 1879. He was one of the most important Post-impressionist Greek painters of the 20th century. His work has been influenced by the art movements of symbolism, impressionism and fauvism. His paintings are characterised by the very light and bright colours, the large brushes that revolutionalised the stagnant Athenian art of the time. He produced mainly landscapes, in which schematization and powerful, pure colours dominate, building a composition made up of unities. Maleas is still one of the most popular Greek modern artists.Ο Κωνσταντίνος Μαλέας γεννήθηκε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη το 1879. Ήταν ένας από τους πιο σημαντικούς Έλληνες μετα-ιμπρεσιονιστές ζωγράφους του 20ού αιώνα. Η εργασία του έχει επηρεαστεί από τα ρεύματα του συμβολισμού, του ιμπρεσσιονισμού και του φωβισμού. Τα έργα του διακρίνονται για τα πολύ φωτεινά («εκτυφλωτικά»)χρώματα και τις πλατιές πινελιές, που έφεραν επανάσταση στα τότε στάσιμα νερά της ακαδημαϊκής αθηναϊκής ζωγραφικής. Ζωγράφιζε κυρίως τοπία, στα οποία κυριαρχούν η σχηματοποίηση και τα δυνατά, καθαρά χρώματα που χτίζουν σε ενότητες τη σύνθεση.
