The extended trailer found on the Cloud disc set to music.... The song I chose is a gorgeous remix made by one Freddie Westborn and posted on the Sony acid planet music site. I thought the music fit the trailer well so here's my attempt at putting the two together. Extended trailer and pictures: www.finalfantasyxii.netMusic: Yesterday's King [Slow Mood Mix]; remix by Freddie Westborn. Please go here: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=135102&T=3655 to hear his remix of Yesterday's King in full (I had to do some chopping for the video) as well as more of his music -- he's very talented.See alternate version (with different music) here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkJztO7uX2k

I recently watched "The King and I" for the first time and was struck by how many similarities there were between this musical and Rodgers and Hammerstein's greatest achievement "The Sound of Music". I much prefer "The Sound of Music" but enjoyed drawing parallels between the two films. One day I will produce a better quality video, with video clips and better sound clips, but I got fed up of trying to make the music fit so stopped at ten reasons.1) Introduction of the children -- In The King and I all the children are presented to Anna while the March of the Siamese children is playing, which I thought went on far too long. In comparison, the Captain blows his whistle, the children march down the stairs and introduce themselves by name.2) The central plot of a woman coming to look after an important (and grumpy) man's many children.3) Anna and Maria both sing songs to the children when they are afraid -- Anna to Louis when he sees the Siamese for the first time and Maria when the children are frightened during a thunderstorm.4) Their dresses are source of much amusement.5) Anna and Maria teach the children. "I don't believe in snow" and "Do Re Mi" can not really be compared. They both sing songs, but Do Re Mi is certainly more visually stunning and catchy.6) The King watches an adaption of Mr Tom with traditional Asian masks and costumes while the Von Trapp children perform The Lonely Goatherd using puppets.7) Tuptin has a secret lover (who sings very loudly about how they have to whisper) while Liesel runs off to meet Rolfe and dance in the gazebo.8) Flowers -- Anna is presented with flowers when she first meets the children, while Gretl gives Edelweiss to the Baroness. 9) Anna makes English clothes for the King's wife to wear at the banquet while Maria makes play clothes from the drapes that used to hang in her bedroom.10) They dance together. The King and Anna dance a polka while the Captain and Maria dance the Laendler. Some ideas I thought of but did not include in my video:11) The introductory shots of the country -- The King and I has shots of the market and elephants while The Sound of Music has glorious views of the Austrian scenery.12) The children don't like Anna and Maria at first -- "I don't believe in snow" causes an argument and the children put a frog in Maria's pocket.13) The children beg to get Anna to stay at the end and the children beg at the abbey to get Maria to see them and to come back and be their governess.14) There is a "speaky song" when a character is worried -- "A Puzzlement" and "I Have Confidence"15) There is a big confrontation between the two leads -- Anna has a go at the King for wanting to whip Tuptim ("You will say no more" "I will say no more because there is no more to say") and Maria tells the Captain off for not knowing his children ("I don't care to hear anything further from you about my children." "I am not finished yet.")16) "You are a very difficult woman" and "Were you this much trouble at the abbey?"17) The King gets jealous when Anna dances with an English man while Maria worries about the Baroness.18) The King and Captain are both worried about invasion. The King learns that foreigners think he is a barbarian while the Captain worries about the Anschluss.19) They throw a party for important people.20) A repeated religious line "Your Moses is a fool" and "When God closes a door, somewhere he opens a window."I much prefer The Sound of Music, with better actors, songs, scenery, dialogue and storyline. I thought visually the set and costumes for the King and I were brilliant but this didn't make up for some dreadful singing, awful child acting and bad songs and I have never been so happy to see someone die in a film. "Shall we dance? " was definitely the best bit, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. If you've bothered to read all this, you obviously love at least one of the movies and would love to hear your opinions about the films and the connections I have made between them.
