Virlanie is the largest private non-sectarian child caring institution in Metro Manila and has worked to give street children opportunities for a better future over the last 15 years. Virlanie's president, Mr. Dominique Lemay is a French social worker who founded the Virlanie Foundation in 1992. Polaris, a four piece band composed of Joy on vocals, Paolo on guitar, Mark on bass and Vengie on drums, was originally formed in July last year. What was supposed to be a drum class soon turned out to be a series of band practice sessions. Their first gig was last December at the Christmas party organized for the Young Adults Program. Since then, the band realized the discipline and efforts that music demands. They are practicing hard every Monday afternoon with their band instructor, Kuya Maik (of the band, Salindiwa)You may be wondering how the band got its name. At the time the band was brainstorming, they couldnt think of an appropriate name when suddenly, Vengie suggested Polaris. When asked how he thought of it, he answered: it is the brand of my slippers. -Claire Renaud, the sunbeam--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Virlanie Foundation Inc., a non-government, non-profit organization supporting more than 300 Filipino street children, is preparing to launch its most happening fundraising concert to date, "Somebody Someday."The charity event promises to wow audiences with performances from noted celebrities in the likes of international pop music icon Billy Crawford, whos now also eye-candy to local TV viewers as co-host of reality show "Pinoy Dream Academy."Also rendering must-see numbers are Ballet Manilas incomparable Prima Ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, versatile impressionist Willie Nep, R&B craze Jay-R, and soprano diva Pinky Marquez. The Beautiful Sout were an incredibly underrated band and deserved much more success than they had. Pop music demands more than talent, though, and the band were not pretty, controversial or bubblegummy enough to fit into the narrow band that pop inhabits. All they had were great songs and amazing musicians and what good is that?It is difficult to name a favourite Beautiful South song but this is definitely one of them. If you've never heard this band and want to download only one song try: "Song For Whoever"; "You Keep It All In"; "A Little Time"; "Good As Gold (Stupid As Mud)"; "Don't Marry Her"; "Perfect 10"; or this one, "Rotterdam". Hell, they are all brilliant download any or all of the - you won't be disappointed.

heres my video showing that you can still get a trebly sound out of your fingers for all the naysayers that said i was using a pick. its really half assed, but im just showing that i employed three finger picking for the faster bits where you thought i was using a pick.oh, and juan does use a pick, often. (ex. viscera eyes, l'via l'viaquez, parts of tetragrammaton, even the easy parts in day of the baphomets, cavaletas. its more of a tone thing than a speed thing, we all know juan has the speed thing under control. here is a direct quote from bass player magazine march 2005 "I played the heavy part with a pick, which I don't usually do with the Mars Volta. But I played with a pick and heavy distortion for three years with Distortion Felix, so it wasn't like I was just trying something new. Because of this experience, I feel comfortable with my distorted tone and my pick playing when the music demands it" - http://www.bassplayer.com/article/back-track/mar-05/3354since then, theyve recorded bedlam in goliath and amputechture, which has quite a bit of pick playing.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1T9eMKxjiLcwatch the intro.check out my music @ www.myspace.com/vincedbass
