BALCONYTV.COM 23/02/08PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETTCombining the melodious hum of Irish Folk music charged with an overwhelming, and embodied enthusiasm for the progression of the Irish rock scene, Dublin band Junah are a sane example of the model of contemporary sound. They come as a band of educated musicians, dedicating their work to promoting their own distinctive sound. Their style, though highly contemporary, is a modern return to the craft of music, sought to respect the nature of the instrument on the one hand, while promoting an exploration of the sound available to such technique. Their sound is an accomplished and textured approach that leads to and from their own moments of definition. Described by Dermot Moore as 'original and insightful', their vocals are cast over and along the tracks 'harmonising beautifully' together with the music, (Hotpress 2007)Junah's 'traditional mellow rock' with 'moments of progressive folk' (Road Records 2007) has established them as a band set to engage the music scene with an insight into the charisma of the Irish folk scene played through the more refined elements of contemporary rock. Having supported acts which include Clive Barnes, Leslie Dowdall and Mary Coughlan Junah, (while serious in their attitude to music), are an engaging act who thoroughly entertain the audience both during and between sets. Headlining venues including The Sugar Club, Whelans and Crawdaddy, Junah's full set is full of evocative vocals, melodies and charged guitar moments.Playing songs that wind listeners into a driven speculation on the possibility of music, their agenda is primarily to create their own sound, while respecting the harmonizing qualities of the instruments they play. All of this has been accomplished in the release of Junah's first E.P 'The Last Patrol', and is due to enter its next stage with the release of the follow up E.P early next year, where they progress the more distinctive features of their previous tracks. Junah look forward to a promising career with their upcoming tour dates in France as well as their many Irish dates too come.http://www.myspace.com/junahmusicTune in again tomorrow!!!

Return of a LegendGrupo Folklórico Y Experimental Nuevayorquino is one of the best-kept secrets in New York's musical history. In the mid-1970s several of the best Latin Jazz musicians in the city got together in the basement of brothers Andy and Jerry González (bass and percussion/trumpet). They included percussionist Milton Cardona, rumba singer Virgilio Martí and salsa stars such as Chocolate Armenteros (trumpet) and Reinaldo Jorge (trombone). Out of the casual jam sessions evolved an alternative sound to the commercial salsa of the day -- music charged with an experimental energy and with roots deep in the Afro-Cuban and Afro-American traditions. Although Grupo only ever made two records, "Concepts in Unity" and "Lo dice todo", they numbered among the most influential bands of the 1970s. Their upcoming reunion after thirty years is a sensation -- and not only for fans of Latin music.Producer: Jerry CarlsonCamera: Gabriel Caballeros, Alex Wolfe & Mario RosalesMontage: MARS ATTACK!!!
