The Cosmic Lounge presents Nu-Jazz Music: 'Follow Me' by Tiefschwarz."Tiefschwarz are a German electro house group formed by two brothers, Ali Schwarz and Basti Schwarz in 1996.They performed deep house DJ sets in some of the biggest clubs in Germany and Switzerland as well as in major foreign cities and became increasingly popular in the house scene.Full bioTiefschwarz was formed in 1996 by two brothers - Ali and Basti Schwarz - who have been successful DJs for over a decade. Peter Hoff, who runs the Benztown studios in Stuttgart, completes the Tiefschwarz production team. Ali and Basti came up with the name for their project after a DJ gig. Tiefschwarz, which is German for 'deep black', is a mixture of their last name, Schwarz, and their love for deep house.In 1990 Ali opened the "on-u" club in Stuttgart, which became a pioneer of the German club scene. Three years later came the "red dog" club, which quickly became known throughout the world as a top address for deep house. Here, resident DJs Ali and Basti played alongside the likes of DJ greats such as Tony Humphries, Master At Work, Frankie Feliciano, Mike Dunn, Mousse T, Matthew Herbert, Lary Heard, Chris Coco, Matthias Heilbronn and many others.Besides their work as resident DJs, Ali and Basti have been travelling together throughout Europe and overseas since 1995. They've played at countless major events and the most popular clubs in both Germany and Switzerland (Zürich, Geneva, Lausanne, Bern, Basle, etc.) as well as in major foreign cities, such as Miami (W.M.C.), New York, Washington, Melbourne, Sydney, Prague, Sarajevo, Amsterdam, Brussels, Antwerp, Rimini, Stockholm, London, Leeds, Sheffield, Ibiza, etc. After six years of DJing and promoting, the two brothers began producing their own tracks. They co-founded the "continuemusics" label in 1996, on which their first single, "24 seven," with remixes by Boris Dlugosh and Michi Lange, was released along with four other tracks.In 1998, Tiefschwarz signed a record deal with edel/benztown records. This proved to be a turning point in their career. Their first release, "music," featuring Joy Denalane of the hip-hop formation Freundeskreis, was not only a hit in Germany (9 weeks at No. 1 on the MTV Germany Dance Charts and No. 1 on Germany's Club Charts), but proved to be very successful in the UK as well. "music" was licensed to the famous "wave music" label in N.Y.C. run by François Kevokian and was remixed by Matthias Heilbronn. Tiefschwarz have remixed around 30 tracks for artists such as Ultra Naté, Byron Stingily, Jam & Spoon, Jennifer Paige, Randy Crawford, Master At Work, Earth Wind and Fire, Shakatak, Mousse T., AWA band, Whirlpool prod., Sabrina Johnson and Sharon Philips. The name Tiefschwarz stands high alongside other legendary German acts such as Boris Dlugosch, Mousse T., Knee Deep, Ian Pooley, Dixon, Jazzanova, Rainer Trüby, Ata and Vincenzo. As DJs, Tiefschwarz have gained a great reputation on the international house scene. Their debut album, "ral 9005", is a skilled and smooth voyage through their daringly diverse cosmos of musical experience. As varied as their influences may be, Tiefschwarz never fail to integrate their own, undeniably unique sound. "ral 9005" covers the spectrum — from the playful excursions into Nu Jazz (mars, fusion I, fusion II) and the soul-filled deep house and garage tracks (there is, you, never, city-sounds, music) to 80s beats (springtime), down beat electro (follow me), soundtrack-style pop (bye bye baby) and kicking club music (no more trouble, acid soul, sky diving). The Cosmic Lounge presents Breakbeat Music: 'Hail To The Bopp' by Meat Beat Manifesto."Meat Beat Manifesto, often shortened to Meat Beat or MBM, is an electronic music outfit originally consisting of Jack Dangers and Jonny Stephens formed in 1987 in Swindon, U.K... This was also the hometown of the band XTC, who helped Meat Beat get started. Meat Beat Manifesto are considered a 'best-kept secret' in the world of dance music, providing (sometimes unwittingly) the musical starting blocks for young samplists in the know (most notably The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers and The Future Sound of London), and helping to form new musical styles, such as big beat and jungle music, with seminal tracks such as God O.D. and Radio Babylon, respectively.Dangers and Stephens left Perennial Divide in 1988 to record an album, but the tapes were burnt in a studio fire. They then recorded the EP Storm the studio, which found them pigeonholed as an industrial act. In response, they recorded 99% in 1990 which was more techno-influenced. Later that year, they released Armed Audio Warfare, which was an effort to re-record the burned tapes of the would-be debut album.The band's live show was conceived as an intense audio-visual experience, with dancers, led by choreographer Marcus Adams, in costumes designed by artist Craig Morrison and video clips accompanying live instruments, sequenced electronic instruments, and live DJing. In the United States, they opened for Nine Inch Nails on their debut national tour in 1990. Adams appeared in many of the band's promo photos with his trademark "popcorn" hairstyle (mostly shaved, with scattered tufts of braided hair) until Satyricon in 1992.In 1992, the band released Satyricon which continued to show Meat Beat as more of an electronica band. In 1994 Dangers relocated from England to San Francisco, resulting in Stephens' departure from the band. Dangers continued the band as a solo-plus-collaborators form, releasing Subliminal Sandwich in 1996. While this album represented MBM's major-label debut on Trent Reznor's Nothing records, it failed to reach the critical and commercial successes of previous releases.In 1997 Dangers recruited drummer Lynn Farmer and guitarist Jon Wilson to record and release Actual Sounds and Voices in 1998, which found the group's earlier flirtations with jazz fusion featured more prominently; the record included appearances by saxophonist Bennie Maupin. The album yielded the single Prime Audio Soup which was featured in the film The Matrix.In 2002 MBM released RUOK?, which demonstrated great steps in the evolution of their sound and prominently featured Dangers' newly acquired EMS Synthi 100. In 2003 they released a remix album for Storm The Studio, followed by ... In Dub, a remix album of RUOK?.At the Center, the latest MBM album, was released in May 29, 2005. A part of independent label Thirsty Ear's Blue Series, the album is a collaboration between Jack Dangers and jazz musicians Peter Gordon, Dave King, and Craig Taborn. It has been well-received by many critics, with one reviewer calling it "one of the best albums of the year in any genre." An EP titled Off-Centre, consisting of outtakes, a remix, and a live track, was released several months later, as well as a limited edition live album recorded during the extensive touring for At the Center. Later, in 2006, Dangers put out a DVD featuring a live MBM show at the Metro in Chicago.Meat Beat Manifesto's 9th studio album, Autoimmune, was released on April 8th, 2008. Originally slated to be a double disc, twenty song affair, it was pared down to a single disc with fourteen tracks upon release. It features the first lyrical work from Dangers since his limited vocal appearances on 1998's Actual Sounds & Voices. In addition, Azeem and DJ Z-Trip make guest appearances.
