Antoni Clavé (né le 5 avril 1913 à Barcelone, Catalogne, mort le 30 août 2005 à Saint-Tropez, France) est un peintre catalan.Après avoir travaillé dans le bâtiment, il rentre aux Beaux-Arts de Barcelone en 1930, pour deux ans. Contraint de quitter l'Espagne pendant la guerre civile, il se réfugie en France.À Paris, il devient décorateur de théâtre et illustrateur: Carmen, Gargantua. En 1941 il installe son premier atelier 45 rue Boissonade à Paris, puis 4 rue de Châtillon. En 1942, le 20 mars, naissance de son fils Jacques et rencontre de Picasso en 1944, c'est une révélation. Il travaille avec Roland Petit au début des années 1950 mais il décide de peindre et d'arrêter la décoration en 1954.Clavé travaille avec acharnement. Inclassable, ni figuratif, ni abstrait et les deux à la fois avec sa force et son mystère. il aimait aussi les collages et se livrait volontiers au hasard de la création, quant à la sculpture, il ne s'y intéressa que par périodes, au début de sa carrière et ensuite beaucoup plus tard.Antoni Clavé quitte Paris pour Saint-Tropez vers 1965. en 1977, il expose ses premiers trompe-l'œil. Le Musée national d'Art moderne de la ville de Paris lui consacra une rétrospective en 1978. La Biennale de Venise expose plus de 100 œuvres au Pavillon espagnol en 1984. Une exposition César / Clavé est présentée actuellement à MontélimarAujourd'hui, l'œuvre d'Antoni Clavé est mal connue du grand public, mais les amateurs s'accordent à lui donner une place de choix, celle d'un des plus grands peintres de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle.
