The beautiful view over the city (for free!!) of Paris and the white Basilica of Sacre Coeur. Amazing that no tourists were taking pictures inside it - totally different behaviour from Notre-Dame Cathedral (in both places photography inside is prohibited).Check these guys out playing and dancing to the music with the football ball!!! Even I left some Euros - what a skill and team play!! :)

Indiana, Spring 08Derek Johnson, PianoAphorisms is a set of short piano piece composed in the Fall of 2001. The set borrows its disposition of movements from Alban Berg's "Lyric Suite". Following Berg's model there are three pieces that grow gradually faster in tempo and more assertive in character separated by three pieces that grow gradually slower in tempo and more relaxed in character.The set starts out with another reference to Berg's "Lyric Suite" by putting the initial pitches of Berg's opening music through block construction methods reminiscent of György Ligeti's "Musica Ricercare". The third piece again pays homage to Berg in its palandromic structure, and the fifth piece, although a bit more savage and condensed than Berg's Presto Delierando, contains a quick moment of repose using chords from the Trio Tenenbroso of that movement.The slow pieces don't make reference to the Lyric Suite but do make reference to each other in the gradual progression from Expectations to Reminiscence, ending eventually in Blur.Composer and multi-instrumentalist Derek Johnson originally hails from Boulder, Colorado and currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana. His compositions have been performed throughout the United States and Canada by leading instrumentalists and ensembles including the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's MusicNOW ensemble, and have received honors from BMI, ASCAP and the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust for New Music. Derek is currently active as an electric guitarist performing with various ensembles covering a wide range of musical genres including the Basilica Project (chamber music meets grindcore), the goodhandsteam (post-rock free improvisation) and the legendary new music powerhouse the Bang On a Can All-Stars. Derek recently completed his doctorate at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana and teaches Composition and Music Theory at the Ball State University School of Music in Muncie, Indiana.
