(Saban Entertainment has been defunct as of 2001-2002, and all of it's works and properties, "Power Rangers" included are now owned by Disney who bought out Saban.)Riding high on the success of it's "Power Rangers" franchise in the mid-'90's which had the US sentai-crazy (with many sentai cash-ins and PR ripoffs from other companies to show for it), Saban decided to delve their hands into one of the original and most defining sentai franchises, "Gatchaman" (which around the same mid-'90's period was experiencing a resurgance with the release of a '94 OVA remake and the U.S "debut" of the '80's Gatchaman dub "G-Force" on Cartoon Network in 1995, most likely brought back to cash-in on the MMPR craze) and licensed the aforementioned Gatchaman II & Fighter sequels for their own take on them.Saban cut up and merged the two sequels into one show, on top of the standard content, script and music alterations common with Saban's dubbing work and most anime dubs of the time overall. The finished product, "Eagle Riders" seemingly failed to attract an audience and was disliked by many fans of "Gatchaman" and it's previous adaptations ("Battle of the Planets and "G-Force"). These appear to be the reasons why only 13 out of 65 ER episodes were aired in the U.S between 1996-1997. Poor, early-morning timeslots and overall lack of promotion are also to blame.Subsequently, the show was canned entirely in the U.S and continued to be syndicated internationally where it found more of an audience and had all of it's episodes aired to boot.
