BIOGRAPHYRoberto Russo studied piano with Maria Tipo, Franco Scala and Daniel Rivera, but he began his music training with his father, graduated at the Cosenza Music Conservatory (Italy) under Giuseppe Maiorca. In 1991 he obtained the Diplôme de Perfectionnement at the Conservatoire Superieure de Géneve (Switzerlnad) and attended advanced courses with Jörg Demus, Alexander Lonquich, Piero Rattalino, Paul Badura-Skoda, Gherard Oppitz, Fausto Zadra (Piano) and Peter Schreier (German Lieder).In 1996 he won the 1st Prize at the Ibla Grand Prize International Pano Competition and, in 1997, he was the only winner of the Ibla European Competition for Composers.Since 1985 he performed solo recitals, in chamber ensambles and with orchestras in both Europe and America, playing for International Festivals and Concert Music Associations in Argentina, Canada, France, Germany, England, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and USA (Ascoli, Bilbao, Bologna, Buenos Aires, Florence, Genève, Guernica, Houston, London, Little Rock, Livorno, Lausanne, Miami, New York, Oklahoma City, Parma, Pesaro, Rome, Salisbury, Urbino, Vancouver, Washington).His performances were appreciated by important critics and musicians (Alan Gershwin, Laszlo Gati, Domenico Bartolucci, Edith Murano, Brenno Boccadoro) as well as commented by International Press (Amadeus, Italy; Suono, Italy; Il Resto del Carlino, Italy; Südkurier, Germany; Arts Alive, USA; Gazzetta di Parma, Italy; El Correo Español, Spain; Strumenti e Musica, Italy; Corriere Adriatico, Italy; El Diario Vasco, Spain; Alto Adige, Italy; Il Tirreno, Italy; La Nazione, Italy). Besides, they have been recorded by International Radios and Television, such as RAI, Radio Vaticana, Houston Public Radio, Radio Television Argentina, Radio Toscana Classica.Because of his interest in chamber music and contemporary music, Roberto Russo collaborated with English composer Michael Stimpson, with Canadian cello player Bridget MacRae and with Italian tenor Alessandro Maffucci. The Maffucci-Russo Duo is active since 1997.An accomplished composer, he wrote pieces for piano, voice and piano, strings, choir. His composition have been performed in Argentina, Italy, Denmark, France, USA and Switzerland.Regurarly invited as a member of jury in International Competitions, from 2000 to 2005 Roberto Russo was appointed Artistic Director of Franz Liszt Internazional Piano Competition and Franz Liszt International Competition for Composers (Grottammare, Italy).
