A newly commissioned piece for solo percussion. My attempt to merge Classical, avant-garde music elements with deep down and dirty street beatsProgram note:The creation of this piece is inspired/ triggered by a problem, a paradoxical dilemma one faces living in a big city: how we are sucked up by the super-creature that functions in its own accord. "Urban meditation" is a very vague concept, but it suggests something quite ethereal. It is a feeling that everyone of us who live in cities continues to experience without paying attention to. Sometimes we are just too overwhelmed by our surroundings that our senses fail to function properly, then we gradually distant ourselves from who we are. I am not a spiritualist and this piece is certainly not background music for a yoga/ meditation section although the title suggests otherwise. Neither was I looking for a solution to this dilemma, my only aim is to address the problem with music.This piece deals with sounds that are sculpted in a confined time and space. Ideas are juxtaposed to one other and are played simultaneously. Rock music patterns are heard in the middle section followed by an virtuosic improvisatory passage and the music takes off from there.
