Shastro & Lauraine performing at a Milonga in Manana Garage, Maui, Hawaii - Nov. 2007.Music: OTV and De AngelisFor more info: www.mauitango.comA few words about Milonguero-style Tango. This is how I - Shastro - dance and it is solely my own definition of this style:Milonguero-style is danced with a slightly leaning posture that makes the two partners torsos connect in the area anywhere between their tummy and their solar plexus (varies according to the respective hight of the partners). The dancers share the axis and dance with a constant upper body contact with each partner shoulders parallel to the other's and rarely changing, when needed, to an off-set V embrace for certain steps. This constant connection through the "heart area" - that does not loosen during turns or ochos - is the most important element in this style and is the center around which every movement revolves. This is purely a social dance style and even when we perform we never choreograph the dance but allow ourselves to be spontaneously in the moment and let the dance be based on improvisation. We don't usually use large movements (like high and sweeping boleos) that - in a social context -could endanger people dancing around us. Most movements are very contained but rhythmic and musical at the same time. The use of embellishments is also very sparse as the main focus is not on how we look from the outside but how the dance feels from the inside.
