Pair up the top songwriters and musicians in today's music industry with an enthusiastic group of young students and what do you get? An electric learning environment where the instructors are as passionate about teaching, as they are about their profession. At the Kids On Stage Summer Academy, kids of all skill and economic levels share intimate, small-group learning experiences with industry insiders straight off of the concert tours. Built on research that shows kids with performance skills fare better on scholastic tests, KOS turns traditional learning upside down. Kids get hands-on learning of every aspect of the music industry, from songwriting and musicianship, to recording technology and stage production - then showcase their new skills at the end of the week at a concert. This video was shot in June, 2008, as part of the Week One Beginning VideoJournalism class with instructor Jennifer Moran, over a five-day period.
