MURS (born Nick Carter on March 16, 1978 in Los Angeles, California) is a West Coast underground rapper. He is signed to the independent label Record Collection and is a member of the rap groups Living Legends, Felt, the 3 Melancholy Gypsys, and previously the "elusive" Log Cabin crew. The name 'MURS' is an acronym for Making Underground Raw Shit. He hails from the Los Angeles neighborhood of Mid-City.MURS has released several solo records: F'Real (1997), Good Music (1999), MURS Rules the World (2000), MURS is My Best Friend, Varsity Blues, The End of the Beginning (2003), MURS 3:16-The 9th Edition (2004), Murray's Revenge (2006), and Sweet Lord (2008). He has collaborated with many artists including Shock G, Humpty Hump (of Digital Underground), Slug, Whole Wheat Bread, El-P, Aesop Rock, Cip-One, RJD2, Hieroglyphics, Little Brother & 9th Wonder, E-40, John Cena, Mr. Lif, Jean Grae, Freestyle Fellowship, DJ Z-Trip, Chingo Bling, Shing02 and many more. He also appeared on L.A. metal/hardcore band Terror's album Always The Hard Way (2006).His track "L.A." from his album Murray's Revenge, appeared in the soundtrack of the latest incarnation of the popular EA made NBA Basketball series, NBA Live 2007.[1] His track Dreadlocks was also featured on the NFL Madden 08. Aside from music, MURS is also a host of Current TV. MURS also was featured on The Breakdown, an online hip hop network.MURS recently released Felt, Vol. 2: A Tribute to Lisa Bonet with Slug and the DVD/CD combo Walk Like A Man. He also released a follow-up album to Murs 3:16: The 9th Edition with producer 9th Wonder entitled Murray's Revenge which was released on March 21, 2006. Murray's Revenge features appearances by Big Pooh of Little Brother and Joe Scudda of the Justus League.MURS is now signed to Warner Bros. Records, and managed by Stampede Management. His seventh solo album titled MURS for President is set be released in 2008.[citation needed] The track "Dreadlocks" is featured in the latest EA-made NFL Football game, Madden NFL 20089th Wonder- Patrick Douthit (born January 15, 1975 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina), better known as 9th Wonder is a hip hop producer from Raleigh, North Carolina, U.S.. He began his career as the main producer for the hip hop group Little Brother, and has also worked with Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, MURS, and Destiny's Child. As part of Little Brother he gained widespread recognition and critical acclaim. He has since left Little Brother[1]. 9th Wonder stated that as long as both Phonte and Big Pooh welcomed a reunion somewhere down the line, he would be completely open to the idea.[2]In the mid-1990's, 9th Wonder was a DJ at the radio at North Carolina Central University while attending school there. He was doing production work for local artists with his keyboards. By his senior year, he was introduced to a relatively new music DAW production software called Fruity Loops (now FL Studio) by a friend who was also a producer. Around the same time, he met two younger schoolmates Phonte and Big Pooh, who were local emcees in the Durham area and joined to become the group known as Little Brother. He then began DJ'ing for them at shows and produced a number of their beats on underground records during the rest of the 1990's.As an up-and-coming producer, he released a remix album of Nas' 2002 album God's Son entitled God's Stepson. This album began what is now a regular trend of remixing whole albums. 9th Wonder has a smooth and soulful production style that relies on samples from artists such as Al Green and Curtis Mayfield.[3] He attributes the bass lines that he uses in production to DJ Premier, Pete Rock and J Dilla, while he claims to have learned "moans" from RZA.[4] With the help of filmmaker Tee Smith and sound engineer Young Guru, 9th Wonder landed a coveted production credit on Jay Z's then highly-anticipated The Black Album. The producer continued to produce for Little Brother and many other Hiphop artists/groups, including Jean Grae, Skyzoo, and Murs. 9th Wonder has also produced for more widely known artists such as Destiny's Child, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, De La Soul, Mos Def, Memphis Bleek, Buckshot from Black Moon, and more recently, artists such as The Game, Lloyd Banks, and Sean Price.
