Chapter 15 part 1 - MARATHON 9/15I was at my locker putting my books and stuff away when Josh and Mark walked up."Hey lil sis. How was your first 3 periods?" Josh asked."Math is boring. English was okay. I had that class with Joe and science was really boring. I met 2 new nice people. How about you two?" I asked."It was okay. I had music, math and then art." Josh said. I nodded and Mark spoke up."I had music, phys. Ed, and then math." Mark said."I see. Well come on, I'm hungry. You guys want to eat with me and my 2 new friends?" I asked."Sure why not." Josh said and we headed to the cafeteria. Josh, Mark and I made our way to the lunch line. I bought salad, Mark bought pizza and Josh got a hamburger. I saw Haley and David sitting at a table on the other side of the room. We walked over to them and sat down."Haley, David these are my 2 brothers, Josh and Mark." They exchanged hello's and we started talking."Ugh, where is he?" Haley said."Where is who?" I asked."One of our friends. He was supposed to be here 5 minutes ago." Haley said."I bet he got another detention." David pointed out."Ugh, I hate detentions. I haven't gotten one yet, but I'm sure I probably will by the end of the day." I said."I think you and him will get along fine. You two seem alike. Oh, hey! There he is!" I turned to see who Haley was pointing at. He was tall, had curly brown hair, wore skinny jeans and converse...Oh crap. It was Nick. Just the person I wanted to see. I know what you're thinking. Why don't you just forgive him already? The fight was pointless. I know, I know. As much as I want to forgive, I don't. You see, I'm kind of hoping that the more we dont speak and pretend to "dislike" each other, I won't develop any more feelings I already have for him. That's why when Ryan asked me out for Friday Night I said yes. I thought that he could be a good distraction. Keeping my feelings away from Nick. So when I saw him walking towards where we were sitting at, I kind of panicked a little. I guess he didn't notice me because he sat right across from me and began eating."Dude, hungry much?" Josh teased. Nick looked up and saw me automatically. I put my head down and just picked at my food. "Everyone, this is Nick. Nick this is-" Haley started to introduce us but that wasnt really necessary so Nick interrupted her."We already know each other. They moved in next door to me." Nick said."Oh, cool. Hey Maryanne, are you okay?" I looked up when Haley said that. I was met with the eyes of Nick. I quickly looked away."Oh, um yeah. Well I think Im done eating and I need to use the washroom, so I'll see you guys later. Bye!" I got up, dumped my trash in the garbage and walked out of the cafeteria. I just walked around the upper level of the school, looking around and thinking. I found a door that said "Garden". I opened it and there was a staircase that led somewhere upstairs. I walked up and found a beautiful setting. There was a balcony and flowers everywhere(THINK HSM PEOPLE!!). I walked over to the balcony and looked out. I started thinking about things, when someone appeared beside me. I looked to my side and there he was. Tall, brown curly hair. Nick. I looked down at my hands. Why must he appear every time I think about him? It just makes everything harder. "Maryanne...About that little argument. It was pointless and stupid and I'm sorry." He said. Crap. He apologized. I didn't want him to because that was going to make me do something I didnt want to. But I did it anyway."Nick, I accept your apology. I really do, but-" I started."But what?""But, I can't be friends with you. I just can't." I said quietly."Why?" "Because I just can't." The bell rang. "Well I should go now. Bye."
