Alain's organ music is very difficult to play, and "Litanies" is no exeption. Written in 1937 it is probably Alain's most famous piece for organ. The "litany" is an irregular 3+5+2+4+2 motive repeated throughout the piece. Though triumphant in some variations yet subdued in others, this masterpiece ends with a massive thirteen note earth-shattering chord! The organist is his sister, Marie-Claire Alain
