Documento periodístico e histórico de la cobertura informativa del huracán Charlie en el mes de agosto de 1951 en Yucatán y otras regiones de México; el último que ha impactado sériamente al Estado durante ese mes.Nos daremos cuenta que en las notas nunca mencionan el nombre de Charlie, sino que se refieren a él como ciclón del Caribe, ciclón tropical o perturbación ciclónica; debido a que era reciente el nombramiento de estas tormentas.. un año antes se empezaron a nombrar por la Marina de Estados Unidos y aceptado por la Oficina Meteorógica de Miami, además de la de Nueva Orleans con nombres en inglés. Tampoco se menciona Cancún puesto que se fundó hasta 1971. Es de destacar que ya se realizaban vuelos de reconocimiento de huracanes con aviones militares y eran bastante precisos en sus pronósticos a pesar de la inexistencia de satélites.Charlie cruzó las Antillas menores como tormenta tropical para luego fortalecerse y dirigirse a Jamaica el día 18 como un huracán rondando la categoría 3 y causar una gran tragedia.. posteriormente, el día 20 se refuerza e ingresa a Yucatán por Cozumel con categoría 4 y vientos sostenidos de 215 km/h y una presión estimada en 964 mb provocando gran destrucción en plena temporada veraniega y dando fin a la misma.
