Luz de Invierno (Winter Light) by Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann, the first of the Tres Piezas (Three Pieces) for piano, was written during my three-week stay at the MacDowell Colony in 2006 and is dedicated to Virko Baley. This piece is a passacaglia, in which the ground bass undergoes isorhythmic transformations as additional voices gradually make the texture more complex.
