Sleigh Ride" is a popular light orchestral piece, composed by Leroy Anderson; he finished the work in February, 1948. Lyrics were written by Mitchell Parish in 1950. It was first recorded in 1949 by Arthur Fiedler & The Boston Pops Orchestra,and has become the equivalent of a signature song for the orchestra.According to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers [ASCAP] annual review of Christmas music, "Sleigh Ride" consistently ranks in the top 10 list of most performed songs during the Christmas season worldwide. And according to author Steve Metcalf in the book "Leroy Anderson: A Bio-Bibliography" [Praeger 2004], "Sleigh Ride...has been performed and recorded by a wider array of musical artists than any other piece in the history of Western music.Ella Fitzgerald (April 25, 1917 June 15, 1996), was born in Newport News, Virginia, and she and her mother later moved to Yonkers, New York. The "First Lady of Song", is considered one of the most influential jazz vocalists of the 20th century. With a vocal range spanning three octaves, she was noted for her purity of tone, phrasing and intonation, and improvisational ability. Over a recording career that lasted 57 years, she was the winner of 13 Grammy Awards, and was awarded the National Medal of Art by Ronald Reagan and the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George H. W. Bush. Fred Astaire (born Frederick Austerlitz; May 10, 1899 June 22, 1987) was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Johanna "Ann" (née Geilus ) and Frederic "Fritz" Austerlitz who was a brewer. Astaire's mother was born in the United States to Lutheran German immigrants from East Prussia and Alsace, and Astaire's father was a Catholic immigrant from Austria. Fred Astaire was an American Academy Award-winning film and Broadway stage dancer, choreographer, singer and actor. His stage and subsequent film career spanned a total of seventy-six years, during which he made thirty-one musical films. Ginger Rogers (born Virginia Katherine McMath in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of William Eddins McMath, of Scottish ancestry, and his wife Lela Owens, of Welsh ancestry.) July 16, 1911 April 25, 1995) was an Academy Award-winning American film and stage actress, dancer and singer. In a film career spanning 50 years, she made a total of 73 films, and is now celebrated for her role as Fred Astaire's dancing partner in a series of ten Hollywood musical films that revolutionized the genre.
